Cold Therapy (CT)

What is

Cold Therapy (CT)

Cold therapy—also known as cryotherapy—is a physiotherapeutic treatment method where cold is specifically applied to alleviate pain, inhibit inflammation, and reduce swelling.
The local application of cold causes blood vessels to constrict (vasoconstriction), slowing down inflammatory processes and dampening acute irritation. At the same time, cold has an analgesic (pain-relieving) effect by reducing the transmission of pain signals in the nervous system.
At my private practice in Munich, cold therapy is used specifically for acute symptoms or as a supportive measure within an individual therapy plan.

Key benefits of

Cold Therapy

Cold has decongestant, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relieving effects. It can positively influence the healing process, especially in the case of acute injuries or irritation.
Furthermore, it prevents excessive blood flow in the inflamed tissue, thereby reducing the spread of swelling.

Pain Relief (Analgesic Effect)

Cold reduces nerve conduction velocity, thereby dampening acute pain stimuli.

Inhibition of Inflammation

Inflammatory processes are slowed down through vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels).

Reduction of Swelling and Hematomas (Bruising)

Reduced blood flow prevents excessive fluid accumulation in the tissue.

Slowing of Tissue Metabolic Processes

Cooling reduces the oxygen demand of the tissue and protects it from further irritation.

Any questions?

Your coverage

As a private practice I treat privately insured patients, patients with civil‑servant medical‑benefit coverage (Beihilfe), and self‑paying patients. I will be happy to inform you transparently about the treatment process, duration, and cost structure before therapy begins.
A medical prescription can, of course, be processed.

What is the goal of cold therapy?

The goal is to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling through targeted local cooling.

Which methods are used?

Methods include cooling packs, ice applications, or specialized cold compresses, all applied in a controlled manner.

Are there any risks associated with its use?

Adverse reactions may occur in cases of cold intolerance, circulatory disorders, or sensitive skin. A professional assessment is conducted before every application.
